The Billings Mustangs walked a fine line between winning and losing for most of Saturday night's game with the Casper Ghosts, and when they fell, they fell hard. A pretty good pitcher's duel turned into a rout for the Ghosts, who pounded 12 hits in the final four innings - Casper had 17 hits overall - and went on to bury the Mustangs 9-2. Yorman Rodriguez and Chris Richburg hit towering home runs for the Mustangs, and starter Blair Carson was solid for 5º innings.

Ricky Bowen is now a professional baseball player. The former Sumiton Christian pitcher made his way through the NCAA and into the majors. He was selected in the 43rd round of the 2009 Amateur Entry Player Draft.  

A third member of Mississippi State's 2009 baseball team has signed a professional baseball contract. Jared Wesson, a senior left-handed pitcher from Tupelo, has signed a free agent contract with the Detroit Tigers and reported to the Tigers' training camp in Lakeland, Fla. The former Tupelo High School and Itawamba Community College standout saw limited playing time at MSU in 2008 after redshirting in 2007. Mississippi State pitcher Ricky Bowen has signed a contract with the Cincinnati Reds, the school announced Wednesday. Bowen was drafted by the Reds in the 43rd round of the Major League Baseball draft last month. He has reported to Billings, Mont., where he'll start out with the Reds' Pioneer League affiliate there.
